It's understandable that no equivalent to your local auto-parts store exists for business jets. Aircraft maintenance records must be documented scrupulously, and the pedigree of every nut, bolt and washer has to be recorded for possible FAA review. So, when it comes time to replace a fuel pump or engine mount-or even a tire-it makes a difference where the part comes from.

Aerion reports that it is close to picking a manufacturing partner to lead development and production of its supersonic business jet. According to the Reno, Nev. company, it will then work with the manufacturer to confirm the Mach 1.6 jet's performance, costs and market. Aerion anticipates that the $80 million jet could be certified by late 2015.

Andre Budhan, a cofounder of defunct charter operator Platinum Jet, has pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court to conspiracy to defraud customers and brokers and impede and obstruct the FAA. The case stemmed from the 2005 crash of a Challenger 600 following takeoff at Teterboro (N.J.) Airport.
