To many people, the words "private jet" conjure up images of wealthy socialites sipping champagne from crystal flutes while reposed in supple leather seats. The reality, however, is usually far from this romanticized ideal, as legions of workaday business jet travelers can attest.

Charter operator Elite Aviation has filed a breach-of-contract and fraud complaint against broker JetCardPlus and some individuals who set up and operated charters arranged by the broker and flown by Elite. The lawsuit filed by Van Nuys, Calif.-based Elite seeks more than $220,000, plus interest, attorney fees and court costs.

Greenwich, Conn.-based CitationShares has announced partnerships with TerraPass, a retailer of carbon offsets, and Corporate Angel Network, a charity that arranges free flights to treatment for cancer patients. CitationShares customers can now donate flight hours to the charity and can balance their "carbon footprint" by purchasing carbon offsets from TerraPass for hours they fly.

The Hangar 10 aviation-services complex at Charles B. Wheeler Downtown Airport in Kansas City, Mo., has opened. The operation is currently housed in temporary quarters on 10 acres at the northwest end of the airport, but ground was broken last January on a 91,000-square-foot facility that will include an executive terminal with a fitness center, pilot overnight rooms and other amenities.

Miami-based Air Platinum Club, which began operating in July, offers its members flight time on club-owned Gulfstream GIV-SPs. The club provides flights within the continental U.S. and between Paris and major U.S. cities. Members also have access to the club's 50-foot yacht, exotic sports cars and beachfront condo, all of which are in the Miami area.

France-based Dassault is working to have ready for entry into service in 2020 technologies that would reduce fuel consumption by 40 percent compared with fuel burn from current-production Falcons. Among other things, Dassault is considering an all-electric system architecture-eliminating pneumatic and hydraulic systems-that uses smaller power generators.

Avantair, the only publicly traded, standalone fractional operator, has announced financial results for the first quarter of 2009. Revenues totaled $34.7 million, a 16-percent gain over the same quarter last year. During the quarter, the company said, it recorded a "substantial" increase in hours flown and added a 52nd aircraft to its fleet.

JetSuite is acting as a broker for Phenom 100 flights operated by Solana Beach, Calif.-based Air by Jet. Air by Jet is the second operator to begin using Embraer's Phenom 100 for charter; Kansas City-based Executive AirShare made the first Phenom 100 charter flight in April. JetSuite has ordered 50 Phenom 100s and has options on 50 more. It plans to take delivery of seven this year.
