Sharing a jet

The cost of buying an aircraft is rivaled only by the expense of maintaining it. If someone gave me a Gulfstream G550 for Christmas, I'd have to sell it immediately because just the expense of hangaring and insuring the aircraft, let alone flying it, would far exceed what I can afford. No wonder many people want to figure out a way to share the cost of business jets.

AAI Acquisition has purchased bankrupt Adam Aircraft Industries for $10 million, having made the only bid for the composite twin turboprop and very light jet aircraft developer. The assets include prototype and unfinished A500 piston twins and A700 VLJs.

Berlin Tempelhof Airport appears doomed

A last-ditch referendum effort by Berlin Tempelhof Airport failed and the airport will almost certainly close October 31. Some 60 percent of voters favored keeping the downtown airport open, but they represented only 21 percent of the city's electors, short of the required 25 percent. The German Business Aviation Association is appealing.

Swiss-based Jet Aviation and Beijing-based Deer Air will jointly operate an FBO and provide line maintenance at Beijing's Capital International Airport. Construction of the 35,475-square-foot FBO has begun and ground handling and limited line maintenance services
