Just a few years ago, the term "FBO" would have drawn blank stares throughout most of Asia. Today, the region is savvier about general aviation and more focused on making itself hospitable for private aircraft. Still, travelers should not expect Western-style infrastructure or support.

The FAA has ordered Santa Monica [Calif.] Airport officials to halt implementation of a ban on aircraft with approach speeds greater than 121 knots. Airport director Robert Trimborn had advised airport users that after April 24, "only aircraft in the FAA-designated A and B categories will be allowed to operate" at the facility.

The first annual Gulf VIP Executive Jet, Luxury Yacht & Elite Car Interiors exhibition is scheduled for November 11 to 13 at the Bahrain International Exhibition & Convention Center and Bahrain International Airport. An FAA proposal to cut airline delays by imposing peak-period pricing to reduce congestion at busy airports is a "bad idea," according to the National Business Aviation Association. The key element of the FAA's proposal is to allow a two-part landing fee based on operations and aircraft weight.
