U.S. Government Used Charter Flights to Transport Terrorism Suspects

New information has been released about how the U.S. government arranged charter flights to transport terrorism suspects to secure facilities in various locations, including Guantanamo Bay in Cuba. It appears that like many ordinary charter buyers, the government went through brokers to book the flights. In one case, a broker called Sportsflight negotiated with charter operator Richmor Aviation of Hudson, N.Y., for a Gulfstream IV. The 2002 deal included a guarantee of 250 hours over six months at a lower-than-market-price of 4,900 USD per hour, as well as options for 50 hours per month after the initial term. These details came to light as a result of a lawsuit that Richmor Aviation has filed against Sportsflight.
