“When you get into the larger aircraft it becomes like a hotel, with dozens of staff supporting the plane based in a galley area down below. You have very comprehensive cooking facilities, and on larger aircraft we have looked at theatres, with spiral staircases and a Steinway grand piano. The limitations for what you can put inside a plane are pretty much the limits of physics, and even money cannot always overcome that. Even so, people are still always trying to push [the limits]. ”
Bizav Flying Activity Grows Again
Year-over-year business aircraft flying activity is up 1 percent, according to data released by aviation services company Argus. The greatest growth was in the small-cabin-jet category, where the number of flights rose 2.1 percent. Flights increased 1.7 percent for midsized business jets and 1.1 percent for turboprops, but declined 2.8 percent for large-cabin jets. By type of operation, the greatest growth occurred in the small-cabin Part 91 segment, up 10.5 percent. That growth offset a drop in small-cabin activity by Part 135 (charter) and fractional operators (down 8.5 and 11.9 percent respectively. Part 91 flying for all aircraft sizes grew 4 percent, while Part 135 flying dropped 3.3 percent and fractional flying dropped 0.6 percent. Argus’ data is based on “serial-number-specific aircraft arrival and departure information on all IFR flights in the U.S.”
