Going Places: Boat show makes a splash in Savannah

Boating and fishing enthusiasts will find plenty to interest them at the Savannah International Boat Show, to be held February 29 to March 2 at the Savannah [Ga.] International Trade and Convention Center. In addition to the exhibitors at the convention hall, the show will boast its own "static display" of sport cruisers, motor and express yachts, sailboats, sport fishing boats, ski boats, runabouts and family cruisers at the river.

Those who prefer to find adventure on terra firma will likely enjoy one of the special features of this year's event- the DuPont Chevy Monte Carlo NASCAR training simulator. Combining a hydraulic motion system and computer controls with an actual race car, the simulator gives users the heart-pounding feel of competing in a NASCAR race.

There will be plenty to do in town when the show ends each night, as Savannah kicks off its St. Patrick's Day festivities in February.

The most convenient airport for business jet travelers visiting the show is Savannah International, seven miles northwest of the city. Rental cars are available and two FBOs are on the field to serve business jet operators.
