Gourmet on the Go: A Bourdeaux Beauty
RESTAURANT LES GIRONíDINES
5 rue des Girondins, Saint-Emilion, France
Tel: 33 5 57 24 77 72
In what may be considered the epicenter of Bordeaux wine country sits the fascinating little town of St. Emilion, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Climb the steep stairs of the mammoth tower and visit a few of the many wine shops dotting the narrow cobbled street. Don’t miss the amazing monolithic church carved out of rock above where the eighth-century Benedictine monk St. Emilion lived.
Of course, sightseeing can give you an appetite. Where to nosh? I’d suggest Restaurant Les Giron’dines, where every dish I’ve tasted has been delectable.
After sampling “serious” Bordeaux wines throughout the region, I opted for the restaurant’s simple yet pleasing house red, which is made by the proprietor’s cousin. Trés bon.
Many locals as well as visitors from around the globe frequent Restaurant Les Giron’dines. After a visit, you’ll likely understand why.
