Tax Break? Not So Fast

Little did we know when we warned you on August 5 that the expired 7.5 percent Federal Excise Tax (FET) on US commercial air travel could be reinstated at any time that the time was just around the corner. A Federal Aviation Administration authorization has reinstated the tax, which applies to flights via charter, jet cards and fractional shares as well as to airline trips. As planned, CitationAir has ended its promotion guaranteeing FET-free flying for two years for jet cards of $100,000 or more.
