Van Nuys To Phase Out Stage 2 Aircraft

The Los Angeles City Council has voted to ban Stage 2 aircraft from Van Nuys [Calif.] Airport. The ruling immediately affects aircraft generating more than 85 decibels and lowers the decibel limit in stages in 2011 and 2014. In 2016, any aircraft noisier than 77 decibels will be banned. In an earlier filing, the National Business Aviation Association wrote that the ban would be "unreasonable and highly discriminatory. It would violate federal law and the assurances made to the federal government as consideration for the substantial grant money going to the airport."
