JetSuite

JetSuite

What It Is: JetSuite, which focuses on the light jet market, provides on-demand and membership-based charter services through its owned and operated fleet. It also offers per-seat charter on a California-centric route network through its JetSuiteX subsidiary.

How It Grew: Founded as Magnum Air in 2006 by Alex Wilcox, a founding executive of JetBlue, and his partners, the company initially pitched itself as an air-taxi operator aimed at a nascent per-seat charter market, flying its owned and operated fleet of economical Embraer Phenom 100 light jets. In 2008 the company changed its name to JetSuite and its focus to the on- demand market. It raised additional investment funding in 2010 and earned an Argus Platinum safety rating that same year. Tony Hsieh, CEO of Zappos, invested $7 million in the company the following year. In 2013 JetSuite added Wi-Fi to its fleet and, in 2016, it launched JetSuiteX, selling seats on scheduled charter flights aboard Embraer ERJ135 jets in 30-seat configurations. Last year Qatar Airways took a minority stakeholder position in JetSuite.JetBlue and JetBlue founder David Neeleman are also investors. JetSuite’s fleet currently has about a dozen Embraer Phenom 100s, five Phenom 300s, and one Legacy 650.

What It Offers:

On-demand charter. JetSuite provides ad hoc charter through its owned and operated fleet. SuiteDeals offer daily specials (as available) on its fleet’s “empty leg” flights.

Membership program. Suite Key memberships, which require refundable deposits of at least $100,000, offer fixed hourly charter rates, no repositioning fees, 365-day access, and guaranteed availability of aircraft with 48-hour notice.

Per-seat charter. JetSuiteX provides per-seat short-haul service to locations including Burbank, Concord, Oakland, and Santa Ana in California, and Las Vegas.

Notable Achievements: JetSuite was the first company to offer guaranteed pricing and online booking for charter flights.

Recent News: In 2018, JetSuite appointed Stephanie Chung president, making her the first African-American to hold that title at a major private aviation company, and relocated its headquarters to Dallas from Irvine, California. In January 2019 JetSuite announced plans to expand its fleet with additional Phenom 300s and other models.
